She loved playing cards, particularly Shanghai Rummy with family, cooking great meals and desserts, welcoming family and friends in her home, watching her honey Tom Selleck, and in her later years eating Chick-fil-A! She will be missed by many.
Dorothy was born on February 5, 1927 in Beaumont, Texas, but lived in Odessa in the same house since 1956. She was the second of five daughters. Upon graduation from Monahans High School in1944, she traveled on her own to Bakersfield CA to stay with her sister so she could work on a U.S. Navy ship off the coast during WWII. Dorothy worked for 20 years as a Deputy Clerk at the Ector County Tax Collector’s Office.
In 1947, Dorothy married George Wein of Monahans. Dorothy is survived by four children, Joyce Iliya and husband Sam of Dallas, Marvin Wein of Morgan Hill, CA, Janet Reed and her husband Floyd of Kyle, Tara Wein of Odessa, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Nelda Hill of Las Vegas NV, daughter-in-law Debbie Wein of Odessa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband George; two children, Phylis and George Ray; and three sisters, Wanda, Jerry, and Karen.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Lopez officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing is at Hubbard Kelly from 9: 00a.m.-12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
