Dorotha E. Nelson Heckman

ODESSA Dorotha Nelson Heckman, 93, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.

She was born April 5, 1917, in Pond Creek, Okla., to Milton and Tessie (Skaggs) Nelson. She was a homemaker and a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. She married Patrick H. Heckman on May 27, 1935, in Roswell, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1999. Dorotha and Pat raised four children while he was employed for 42 years with El Paso Natural Gas Co. They retired to Lake Brownwood in 1979. Dorotha moved to Parks Methodist Retirement Village in October of 1999.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bernard Nelson; sister, Nina Miller; granddaughter, Suzanna Smith; granddaughter-in-law, Claudia Faye Brown; and great-granddaughters, Mary and Martha Warren.

She is survived by her son, John H. Heckman of Odessa; three daughters, Yvonna Willis and husband Bill of Breckenridge, Texas, Rosalie Brown and husband Richard of Odessa and Janice Loggins and husband Jack of Arlington, Texas. Dorotha was loved by 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Rocky Creek Cemetery in Brownwood,Tx. with Pastor Johnny Griffin officiating.
