Donna Jo Hayes, 81, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021. Donna was born in Hughes Springs, Texas on January 27, 1940 to the late J.E. “Sam” Golden and Jennie Lou (Crossland) Golden. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in Amarillo and Odessa.
Donna was a master gardener, having been actively involved in the Permian Basin Master Gardeners. She took great joy in cultivating her backyard oasis and spent many hours enjoying the fruits of her labor. Donna also enjoyed past involvement with the L.O.S.N.A. ~ El Kantara # 70. Supporting her daughter Jan rise to the top.
Family and friends relish the exquisite quilts she crafted while sitting at the large window overlooking her beautifully landscaped backyard. She was diligent to be sure she made a special quilt for each one of her siblings, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These are meaningful heirlooms which will be treasured in the years to come.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Sam Golden, husband’s Ted Haney and Barry Hayes, daughter Lesa Klein, grandson Gary Don Haney and her brothers James Allen Golden, William Harold Golden, and Freddy Golden.
Donna is survived by her children Janett Hamlin of Odessa, Texas, Scott Haney (April, recently deceased) of Lexington, South Carolina, and Sherrie Winslett (Rick) of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by her siblings Kenneth Golden (Janice), Phillip Golden (Linda), Candace Wright (Rodney), Anna Williams (Robert) and Beverly Looney (Lonnie), as well as her sister-in-laws Mary Ann Golden and Pam Golden, all of Odessa, Texas, Also left to cherish her memories are her grandchildren Shellie, Melissa, Tana, Kristy, Charity, Samantha, Calvin and Charlie and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private Butterfly Release will be held on Mother’s Day in memory of Donna Hayes and her daughter-in-law April Haney. Give your Mother a hug and kiss today, as it may be your last one.
