Born April 1, 1937, to Raymond Boon and Virginia Grace Dunn in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Donna Boon moved to Amarillo, then Odessa before her teenage years, where she met the love of her life, Richard Brown. They were married on September 4, 1954. Donna was a homemaker for most of her life, but her servant’s heart called her to do so much more. She was very involved in several programs at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, as well as in the community. She taught, and eventually led the children’s Sunday School programs and Vacation Bible School, as well as her weekly women’s Bible study. She was one of the founders of Kinder Kare and Hope Keepers. She worked with her husband Dick at Home Hospice where they ministered together, as well as volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She loved her monthly Bridge games with her ladies, gardening in her backyard, scrapbooking, and traveling all over the US with her friends and family. Every September, you would find her and Dick basking in the sun on the beach at South Padre Island for their anniversary, sometimes even bringing their family for a memorable family vacation. Eventually, her heart would go entirely to her 10 grandkids and 6 great-grandkids. She taught them how to make her famous yeast rolls and grow Lantanas. They taught her how to work her iPhone and navigate her DirecTV. The love they all shared was undeniable. Not known as a passionate animal lover, the family remains surprised and amused at the love and companionship she shared with her cat Willow, who hates everyone but Donna. She loved watching football; she was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. And, despite having 4 members of her family attend The University of Texas campuses, 2 attend WTAMU, and ZERO kids at Texas Tech or Oklahoma University, she loved rooting for the Raiders and the Sooners at any given chance, which was on brand for her desire to stir the pot and get people going. We will all miss her so much.
Donna is preceded in death by her father Raymond and mother Virginia, her brother Gene, her sisters Beryl and Deanna, and her husband Richard. She is survived by her children Lisa (JC) McClure of Copperas Cove, Tx, Robert (Kristen) Brown of Richmond, Tx, Michael (Karin) of Fitchburg, WI, grandchildren Scarlet, Campbelle, Joshua, Rachel, Conner, Hannah, Aaron, Cooper, Michael, and Olivia, and great-grandchildren Ethan, Arianna, Kathryn, Gianna, Willow, and Zoey, plus many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff and residents of the Lincoln Towers for their profound welcome and immediate friendship with our sweet Donna.
