Donald J. Lampman, devoted husband and father, passed away in the early morning hours of April 4, 2013.
Don, as most people knew him, was the type of person that we all aspire to be: kind, attentive, and always lit up the room with his smile. He was a member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa for over 50 years, loved Mojo football, the Dallas Cowboys and UT Football, and going to the horse races.
Don was born in Kingston, PA, on November 29, 1927, to Joseph H. Lampman and Emily McCullough Lampman. He served with the 81st Constabulary in Fulda, Germany at the end of World War II. He arrived in Odessa as a hospital inspector for the Veterans Administration, and later took a job with GMAC where he would stay for 38 years, retiring in 1992.
He met his wife, Dortha (Dottie) Teel, in 1955 at Groves Drug Store where he would go for coffee every day. They were married 2 months and 2 days later, and went on to build their family with two sons, Steve and Mark.
Donald J. Lampman is preceded in death by his parents, sister Emily, and brothers Alfred and Robert. He was also preceded in death by his brother- in-law R.C. Teel and his wife Betty, and brother-in-law Bill Teel.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dortha, sons Steve Lampman and wife Lisa of San Antonio, Mark Lampman and wife Daphne of Odessa, granddaughters Amber Austermann and husband Nathan of San Antonio, Stephanie Lampman of San Antonio, Kelly and Piper Lampman of Odessa, and great grandson Blake Austermann of San Antonio. Don’s in-laws, which he considered close family, include brother-in-law Curtis Teel and wife Cheryl, James Teel and wife Mary, sister-in-law Earlene Teel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
