Darlene Marie Maxwell Wells passed in the early morning hours of January 23, 2022. Born October 3,1947 in San Angelo, Texas, she was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Robert Maxwell Sr. and Naomi Clydene (Mathers) Maxwell, and her son Scott Wayne Sage.
We will forever remember the way that Darlene loved so openly and treasured her friends and family. She remains in the hearts of so many who were fortunate to be touched by her generosity and genuine spirit.
Darlene began cultivating life-long relationships as a child growing up in the west Texas towns of Denver City and Kermit. Graduating from Permian High School in Odessa in 1965, Darlene carried that MOJO pride with her as she cheered on the football team in her season ticket seats. She sure hated to miss a game.
Midland Texas was her home for many years, and it was there that she raised her two children. Beloved neighbors became family and friendships were forged that spanned 40 years. Everyone who knew her understood that her beauty appointments were sacred.
Darlene married the love of her life, Jeff Wells, on November 26, 1996. Soon after they opened a home and garden business called Down to Earth. Many people in the community will remember walking through the store and discovering plants with Darlene.
The births of her grandsons, Cameron and Keeton Dotson, in 2003 and 2006 lit her up from the inside out. She was a devoted grandmother who cherished every second that she was able to watch them become young men. She often talked about how thankful she was to have had many summers worth of memories with “her boys.”
Darlene loved music, she loved old movies, she loved researching her ancestry, and she loved learning Spanish with Martina and Concha.
She is survived by her husband Jeff Wells of Odessa, her daughter Marnie Hall and son in law Neil Hall of Florida, grandsons Cameron Dotson and Keeton Dotson, 3 stepsons, 6 step grandchildren, her brother Frederick Robert Maxwell Jr. and his wife Evelyn, her brother Gale Olen Maxwell and his wife Tyna, her sister Gayla Maxwell Billingsley, and many adored nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and extended family whom she loved fiercely.
We will all miss her brilliant smile, her big ‘Neenee’ kisses, her hugs that were felt to the bone, and her bright greeting .. “Hello my family”
There will be a viewing in her honor at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home from 6pm-9pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. A graveside service will follow at 3pm on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at McKenzieville Cemetery.
