Criselda Chavez

Criselda was born to Guadalupe Porras (Santiago Navarrette) and raised in Odessa, Texas by Guadalupe and Socorro Alvarado. She was the youngest girl, in a full household of 9 children. Criselda grew up in a close knit neighborhood in South Odessa, where she met her husband, Jose "Borrado" Chavez.

Nena & Borrado married on December 2, 1978. They continued to share their life in Odessa and raised their family of 3 children. Nena was an ECISD School Bus Driver for 17 years, a position she loved. She took pride in caring for the kids she drove, and enjoyed decorating her bus for every holiday! Nena was especially thrilled when she was able to take her grandchildren on school field trips.

Nena will be remembered for always having an open heart, she was outgoing and never met a stranger. Her laugh will never be forgotten and was infectious to all around her. Nena prioritized spending time with family, but with special love for all her grandchildren! She also enjoyed gambling and spending time with her friends having coffee.

Nena is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jose Loya, Ricky Luna; and nephew, Arturo Espinoza.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years; children Jose Chavez Jr., Priscilla Cruz (Manuel), and Abigail Bugarin (Cody); grandchildren Mia, Khloe, Ariana, Jovani, Kylie, Kason; siblings Manuel Luna, Linda Morales, Lionel Loya, Elia Espinoza, Esmeralda Arzate, Sylvia Almendarez, Israel Porras, and Tavo Alvarado; and many other family and friends.

A formal visitation for Criselda will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N Alleghaney Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A formal visitation will occur Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 601 N Alleghaney Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A rosary will be Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 601 N Alleghaney Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A funeral mass will occur Friday, August 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, 1321 W Monahans St, Odessa, TX 79763. A committal service will occur Friday, August 11, 2023 at American Heritage Cemetery, 4100 FM 1788, Midland, Texas 79707.
