Charles Willis Harris Sr, 82, a long-time resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
Charles was born on April 17, 1928, in Pooleville, Oklahoma, to parents Tom and Nora (Liston) Harris. He was a retired businessman and an Air Force veteran who served his country during WWII.
He was a member of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang, a life-time member of the V.F.W. Post 4372, American Legion Post #04030, BPO Elks Lodge #1630, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Also, Charles was an Institutional Representative for the Boy Scouts of America, a past Director and Co-Chairman of the Permian Basin Oil Show, and a lifetime benefactor of the Elks Crippled Children’s Hospital in Octane, Texas.
He is survived by his sons, Charles “Chuc” Harris and wife, Julie of Katy, TX, James Harris and wife, Sonya of Arlington, TX, daughter, Lois Platt and husband, Frank of Haslet, TX, sister, Lois Bass of Ardmore, OK, eleven grandchildren, Ron, Shane, John, Jennifer, Betty Faye, JoAnna, Mathew, Charles III, Amanda, Lance and Tammy, fourteen great-grandchildren, Reagan, Audra, Parker, Britton, Carter, Madison, Fallon, Ethan, Grace, Frank, Allison, Justin, Chelsie and Allison Jul; nieces and nephews, Martha Chapman, Richard Wilson and Larry Harmon; brother-in-law Paul Ray Hughes and wife, Mary and sister-in-law Donna Hughes.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Nora; wife, Betty Jean Hughes; brothers, Hubert and Lindale; sisters, Stella, Della, Lovella and Pet; son, Benny Edward Mills; brother-in-law, RV Hughes; and nephews, Robert and Howard Wilson.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
Pallbearers will be the Chuck Wagon Gang.
