Carolyn Ann Stockton age 76 passed away November 18, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born August 21, 1938 in Galveston, Texas to Charles Fred and Edna Corrine (McClure) Crites. She grew up in Graford, Texas. She was the head cheerleader and graduated high school at Brownfield High School in 1956. She was baptized in the Church of Christ and remained a faithful member throughout her lifetime.
She married James Meeks in 1956 and from this union they had three children, Gregory Allan, Stephen Ray, and Eric Wayne. On August 21, 1969 she married Jacky Dale Stockton and extended her family to include Ronald Dale, James Ward, and Cheryl Marie. Jack and the children will always have fond memories of the monthly trips they took either fishing, camping or going some place they hadn’t been before.
After graduating high school Carolyn went directly to work at the First National Bank in Brownfield and continued in banking for the next 44 years, taking time off only when her children were born.
Her first job in banking was a secretarial position for the four officers of the Brownfield bank. Later she worked in the bookkeeping department. After a move to Odessa, Carolyn began working in the Trust Department of the American Bank of Commerce. After three years in this bank she took the position of Trust Department secretary at the First National Bank of Odessa, which later became Bank of America.
Carolyn had by this time become very interested in the services provided by the Trust Department and strove to learn more about investments and management of the customers account assets. She began educational endeavors in order to become more knowledgeable. In 1974 Carolyn received the Certified Financial planner designation and afterward she attended the Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University as a Trust major. She was promoted to assistant Trust Officer in 1974, to Trust Officer in 1980, to assistant Vice President in 1981 and Vice President in 1982.
Because of her great love of sports she became an avid fan of Permian High School Football. She was a member of the Permian Booster Club throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. She attended nearly all the football games including all the playoff games, and all state championship games except 1965.
In 1988 Carolyn was promoted to Vice President and Manager of the Trust Department. She was hired in 1992 at Bank One as Vice President and in 1996 promoted to Vice President and Manager of the Investment Management Group.
In 1998 she received her most prized award; The Bank One Investment Groups Richard M. Hart Service Quality award for the State of Texas. To be honored by your management, peers and employees was a great highlight of a long career in banking .
On June 1, 2000 Carolyn retired from the position she had attained to enjoy life with her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and thanking the Lord for his many blessings. In their retirement Jack and Carolyn split time between Odessa and their second home in Ruidoso, New Mexico. They also traveled to any other place that they wanted to see.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Edna Crites, her brother Charlie Crites and her son Stephen Meeks. She is survived by her husband Jack, her children Ronald, Greg, James, Cheryl, and Eric and 10 grandchildren.
A Family Visitation will be held on Friday November 21, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa, Texas. Services will be held on Saturday November 22, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, Texas. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
