Billy John Kuykendall went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2016. Bill shared 46 years of marriage with his wife Barbara. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his wife, family, friends and little dog Peaches. Bill was born in Gladewater, Texas on August 26, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents Rayburn “Jack” and Dorothy Kuykendall. Raised in Grandfalls, TX, he graduated in 1960 from Grandfalls-Royalty High School and attended the University of Texas in El Paso. Bill was proud to call the Permian Basin home and was employed by the City of Odessa for 33 years. He retired as the City Building Official in 1998. Bill made many life long friends from work and continued to enjoy time with his coffee buddies after retirement. He liked watching old westerns and listening to country and gospel music. He was an avid football fan and traveled to all the games supporting the Permian Panthers...MOJO! Bill was a thoughtful, generous and compassionate person who always put others before himself. If someone was in need he was there to lend a hand. He was an honest man and was always good for his word. He had a great sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye when he was being mischievous. Bill treated everyone with respect and was a very unpretentious person. He was a wonderful role model to his family and will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his wife Barbara; three daughters, Shelly and her husband Doug Reeves of Odessa, TX, Sherri and husband Darvin Dwyer of Cypress, TX, Cindy and Dennis Garner of Amarillo, TX; three grandsons, Michael Dwyer and wife Tyler of Bixby, OK, Mathew Dwyer of Austin, TX and Dillon Garner of College Station, TX; one great granddaughter, Alexis Dwyer of Bixby, OK. Being the selfless man he was, Bill requested to be cremated and no services be held. His family is honoring those wishes. Bill will forever be in our hearts and memories, may he rest in peace.
