Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hazard in 1993, and her son Stephen Hazard in 2009.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, David Hazard and wife Deniece of Odessa, Larry Hazard and Leslie Baker of Odessa, daughter, Karen Travis and husband Lin of Odessa; her brother Kenneth Falls and Roy Don of Abilene; sister Cookie Ramsey and husband David of Eagle Mountain Lake; grandchildren Evan and Haley Hazard, Kara and Kasey Travis, Stephen Hazard and Savanah Skipworth, Brooke Owensby and Haley Simpson. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren.
Betty was born in a farm house in the Merriman community in Eastland County, Texas to Kenneth and Pat Falls. She grew up in Ranger and graduated from Ranger High School in the top 10 of her class. While at Ranger Junior College, she earned an Associate Degree in Business and belonged to the “Deb Club” and Phi Theta Kappa. She married Bob Hazard in 1952 and in 1964 they moved with their four children to Odessa. She enjoyed square dancing in the “Jeans and Queens” club for several years. She and Bob made many good friends. She also enjoyed the camping trips they made with their travel trailer. But most of all, she enjoyed her family and spoiled her grandchildren, who adored her.
Betty enjoyed the many friends she made while working in medical offices in Odessa during her life, including Dr. James Daves, Dr. Lewis, Dr. Stephen Wiehle, and Dr. Kirby Tatum. She retired in 2009 from the West Texas Physician’s Alliance where she worked with a wonderful group of people who were very good to her. The family is grateful for the kindness and respect they showed her.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Life Change Baptist Church at 10th and Texas with Johnny Thomason officiating. A burial service will be held at the Merriman Cemetery, Ranger, Texas, Wednesday the 18th at 1:00 p.m.
