Ada Mary Johnson

August 13, 1928 - August 11, 2013

Ada Mary (Leonard) Johnson passed from this life into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, August 11, 2013. Ada Mary was born on August 13, 1928 in Big Spring, Texas, to Mattie (Hull) and W. O. Leonard. She was a proud graduate of Big Spring High School, class of 1945. Upon graduation, she worked for the telephone company in Big Spring. It was after work one day that, by chance, Ada Mary met the love of her life, Stanton Johnson. Even though he was waiting for another girl at the time, Ada Mary caught his eye and Stanton caught hers! It was truly love at first sight. The courtship was quick, and they were married on July 22, 1948. Their love and devotion to each other endured through sickness and health, through good times and tough times--but never wavered. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Ada Mary loved her family. She was a wonderful mother to her three children Gary, Teresa, and Brenda. Quite often, her kitchen was the hub of neighborhood activity. She made sure her children never wanted for a thing, but she also made sure they appreciated what they had. The greatest gift that she gave to them, however, was her heritage of faith in Christ, which she learned from her mother and passed down to her children and grandchildren.

She faithfully attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years, and was active in her church family until her health prevented her participation. Her life was simple, yet so well lived. Ada Mary poured herself out for others, and those who knew her and loved her will miss her deeply.

Ada Mary is survived by her husband, Stanton; her three children and their spouses: Gary and Mary Ellen Johnson of Austin, Teresa and Larry Robinson of Odessa, and Brenda and Kenny Anthony of Midland; her 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life (and her 85th birthday) will be held at Crossroads Fellowship at 2pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.
