Victoria, or as many knew her as Vicky, passed away on the eve of October 10, 2022. She was born to Asuncion and Maria Aguilera on December 29, 1936 on a small ranch known as El Tule De Enmedio, in the outskirts of Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the youngest of 7 children. Susano, Carlos, Adela, Ramon, Asisclo and Eulogio, who, including her parents, had all preceded her in death. Her family moved to Juarez, Mexico, a border town near El Paso, Texas, when she was a teenager. There she completed her schooling and worked in El Paso after school. She was a very disciplined, determined, independent and a self-motivated person. Very intelligent as well. She finished high school in 2 years’ time. She also studied very hard to learn English and would practice daily reading the newspaper and circling all of the words that she did not know. Later, she would also teach herself to drive by reading the owner’s manual.
She met her first husband, Mike Ayub in El Paso. They soon married and lived in there for a short time until they moved to Oceanside, Ca., where they called home and started their family. They had 3 children- Mike Jr., Oscar and Sylvia.
She stayed home and cared for them but once all of the kids had started school, she started working again. She worked in the banking industry at Bank of America and California Bank and Trust for 40 years combined until she retired. Victoria was a devout Catholic and very active in the church and in her community. She taught Baptismal classes and First Communion classes in the Hispanic community of St Mary Star of the Sea Church for many years.
After living in Oceanside for 31 years, she moved to Vista, Ca, where she lived for the last 33 years. She extended her community service to Vista as well, both at St. Francis and St. Thomas More churches.
She was widowed at an early age of 56 after 35 years of marriage. She was lucky enough to eventually meet Don and his wonderful children. She and Don were well matched, and he convinced her to marry him. They spent the last 21 years together, spending a lot of the early years going to various events and doing a lot of dancing along the way. Vicky loved to dance and travel. They did a lot of that as well. Too many trips and cruises to mention. Suffice it to say, she has literally traveled the world.
Vicky was a very talented person. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, knitting, needlepoint, embroidery and quilting, and was very good at all of it. She made several quilts for her children and grandchildren as well as handmade Christmas stockings for her children, their spouses and the grandchildren. She also made several quilts for charity raffles in the community. She was a fantastic cook and loved making large meals for her family.
She enjoyed her 6 grandchildren- Austin, Andres, Zachary, Eli, Bronson and Alejandra and loved spending time with them, both as children and later as adults. The biggest smiles came when she could visit with her 5 great grandchildren- Summer, Layne, Aubree, Caysen and Harlee. They were all a big part of her heart and brought her great joy.
Vicky always strived for one thing- Happiness. I believe she achieved that and then some. Her family and friends were a huge part of that. She lived a life well lived and you could tell by her smile.
Even though she is no longer physically here with us, we know she will remain in our hearts forever. We love you Mom !
