Tom is preceded in death by his eldest child and only son Thomas Patrick Flanagan Jr., as well as his brother Timothy Flanagan and youngest grandchild Bryce Khalil Holmes.
Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Flanagan and their 3 daughters Amy Shoot, Wendy Jones and Susan Holmes. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren-Kyle Jones, Devon Shoot, Nicole Jones, Jarod Shoot, Sean Jones, Raelynn Holmes, Marlon Holmes Jr. and Reese Holmes as well as 3 son-in-laws Kent Shoot, Chris Jones, Marlon Holmes Sr. and his brother Terry Flanagan.
Tom was a graduate of Shrine of the Little Flower (High School), General Motors Institute and Detroit College of Law. He was an Automotive Engineer, Trial Attorney and Child Safety Advocate. He was a member of both the State Bar of Michigan and State Bar of California. Tom enjoyed helping many individuals and families as an Auto Safety Consultant.
While on the Advisory Board in the building of California State University San Marcos, he helped begin the unique and challenging hands-on project for Business Administration Seniors named Senior Experience.
In Tom’s early parenting days, he helped begin and coached for the Troy Youth Soccer League in Troy, Michigan. Continuing his interest in youth sports and education, he was a strong advocate for Bonsall and Fallbrook, California schools and athletic programs in his most recent grandparenting days. Tom was so passionate about student-athletes doing well both academically and within their sport, we know he would be honored that his family has created a scholarship in his name to be awarded to excellent Student-Athlete seniors within the Bonsall and Fallbrook High Schools. In lieu of flowers, contributions are being accepted to the family’s Go Fund Me and PO Box to establish the Thomas P. Flanagan HS Athletic Scholarship. The Go Fund me link is Bonsall & Fallbrook HS Athletic Scholarship organized by Susan Flanagan Holmes. Or checks can be made payable to Joan Flanagan and memoized Thomas P Flanagan Scholarship.
