During WWII Terri left her hometown of Detroit, Michigan to join the WAVES. While stationed at Farragut NTS, Idaho she met and married Marine sergeant Richard Dale Smith, her husband of 58 years.

In 1949, RD’s 20 year career in the Marines brought them to Camp Pendleton and Oceanside where they lived and raised their son, Dennis

She served as president of Young Ladies Institute (YLI) of St Mary parish, served several terms as president of the Oceanside Emblem Club and Women’s Club and was the first woman president of Palomar Chapter of Smooth Dancers. In retirement, she and RD were dedicated bingo volunteers for the Elks and Mission San Luis Rey parish. In the early 1960s before cycling became so popular, Terri, her husband and friends created the Roadrunners Cycling Club. One of her accomplishments was cycling 50 miles in 5 hours in a round trip route between OHS and Live Oak Park in Fallbrook.

RD preceded Terri in death in 2003. She is survived by her son Dennis Smith (Mary), granddaughter Amber Crothall (George), their daughters Evie and Merideth, granddaughter Frances Smith, grandson Matthew Smith, (Sara) and their children Sawyer and Darcy. Terri and RD considered long-time neighbors Walt and Ruth Sienkiewicz and their children to be family.
