Shizuko (Susie) was born to Rinko and Kame Onaga on November 14, 1936 in Okinawa, Japan. She was the 5th child of 7. In 1958 Susie took a leap of faith and made her journey to the United States by boat.
in 1981, Susie met the love of her life Thomas Alonzo Thornton. They were married on February 28, 1981. Together they loved to travel around the country in their motor home seeing all the wonderful National Parks and other sites, even driving all the way to Alaska. Susie loved working in her garden, growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables and sharing them with family and friends.
Susie worked in many fields during her life, the one she enjoyed the most was an Electronics Assembler for Sierracin/Magnedyne in Carlsbad, CA where she spent 15 years.
Susie is survived by her sister, Fumiko Florendo; step children, Carolin Thornton Lhamon, Sheila Thornton DeLaura, Patricia Spruill, Elizabeth Thornton Jacquemin, and Randy Thornton, many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Yoshi "Okhomma" Ikehara, Miyo Maeshiro, Yoshiko Toume, Tomi Higa; brother Rinkiku Onaga; stepchildren Thomas Thornton Jr. and Michael Thornton.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10am September 11, 2018, with a viewing 1 hour prior from 9am til 10am. At Eternal Hills 1999 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Susie's life
