Robert was born in Goodyear, Arizona, to Charles and Theo Meech. But attended school, in nearby Sacaton, AZ, which is located on a Indian reservation, until 1941, when the family relocated to National City, CA. There, he attended junior high and was a graduate of Sweetwater High, class of 1948.
In 1948, he joined the United States Marine Corp. Served his country for 30 years. His long tour of duty, took him to Camp Pendleton, 29 Palms, Kaneohe, HI & El Toro. Was a veteran of the Korean & Vietnam Wars. He retired from the Marines, in 1973, as a Captain.
On February 22, 1953, he married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Voigt, at the MCRD chapel
in San Diego. For 58 years, they fulfilled a life time of memories. Went on many adventures
and loved sharing those times with family and friends.
In 1959, the family moved to Vista, and have been permanent fixtures ever since. Bob, loved camping, fishing, traveling, bowling and woodworking. He was a mechanic by trade. He also enjoyed gardening and playing with his trains. He was involved with his children’s sports activities such as junior bowling, and baseball, in which he served as president of the American Little League. During his term, he helped with the conception and construction of the Thibido Little League field. He was also an avid San Diego Padre fan.
Bob loved the Lord and was an active member of the Community Church of Vista for 52 years. He was an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and a teacher with the high school groups.
He was also a leader in their Tuesday night Bible Study Group.
Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara. 1 daughter, Sharon Folmer (James). 2 sons, Richard and Robert (Lori). 2 granddaughters, Heather and Jessica Folmer. And his beloved Chihuahua, Maxie.
1 sister, Beverly Gorman and 1 brother, Richard Meech (Mary). And a 96-year-old aunt, Margaret Patterson. Nieces, nephews and cousins. Lori’s children, Tyler and Troy. Carissa and David Lewis, and their children, James & Aurora.
Robert was preceded in his death by his beloved grandson, Ryan Folmer. And a sister, Dorothy Reynolds.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Dec. 9 at the New Community Church of Vista at 11 a.m. Graveside burial will be held at Eternal Hills of Oceanside at 12:30 with full military honors. Reception to follow at the New Community Church of Vista, club house.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations in Robert’s memory to the Wounded Warriors (Camp Pendleton) or the New Community Church of Vista (youth program).
