Robert W. Kruger, 67, of Oceanside, Ca. departed this life unexpectedly on December 20, 2015 at Sharp Memorial Medical Center, in San Diego, Ca. His family was by his side when he passed. He was born to the late George and Ella Kruger on September 15, 1948 in Rochester, Minnesota. Robert graduated from Lake City High School in 1966 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April of 1967. During his twenty-three year Marine Corps career, Robert served in a multitude of billets to include three tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired in 1990 as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. Robert started his second career working in the civilian sector for ten more years at Deutsche Electrical as a master electrician. Robert met the love of his life in July of 1970. They were married in November that same year and celebrated forty-five years of marriage in 2015. Robert is survived by his wife Susan, his son Brad, and three beloved dachshunds Jake, Casey, and Buck, as well as numerous siblings, family, and friends from all over the United States. In his leisure time, Robert was passionate about motorsports. He raced motorcycles in the 70’s and served as a checkpoint official for SCORE International for more than twenty years. Additionally, Robert was a member of the Palomar Amateur Radio and the San Diego DX clubs where he pursued radio contacts all over the world. He was an avid NASCAR, Minnesota Vikings, and Chevrolet enthusiast. Robert was a member of VFW Post 1924 in Fallbrook Ca. Services for our beloved husband, father, friend, and Marine will be held on 10 AM Friday, January 15, 2016, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and he will be laid to rest at 1 PM, at Miramar National Cemetery.
