

He attended and graduated Canyon High School 2000. Straight after High school he joined the Untied States Marine Corps serving an infantryman for the 1st Division 4th Marines Bravo Company. Rick was baptized Christian in Iraq before being among the first to enter and liberate it. He was promoted to Sgt. Nilos and awarded many medals for his great service to the Marine Corps. Rick was honorably discharged in 2004.
After the Marines Corps. Rick put himself through the Palomar Police Academy in San Marcos, CA. He was hired with Fountain Valley Police Department in 2005. Through out Ricks 11 year carrier he was awarded 2 Lifesaving Medals and 1 Medal of Velour. He was also given over 40 commendation from Traffic Court referees, victims of crimes or vehicles collisions and even people he issued tickets to. He was also on the Department Color Guard, the West County SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team and the Departments Peer Support Team.
Rick was most importantly " A family man". He married his high school sweetheart Becky Nilos (Birch) on August 23, 2002. They were married for 15 years and enjoyed every minute of it. They have three boys Ricky 11, Nathan 10, and Cody 7. Rick was a Coach for his boys baseball and Flag Football teams. He enjoyed his sons to the fullest as they enjoyed him.
His life was filled with love and the understanding of how important God and family are. Rick put God and his family first in all circumstances. He learned to love those who needed Gods Love and help those who God put in his path.
Rick was a wonderful man who loved to serve his country, community and family. He will be missed by all who knew him and all who read this.
