Patricia Ann “Pat” Vick Houck passed away in Cardiff by the Sea, CA, on Friday, September 2, 2022, after a brave and dignified battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 88.
Pat is survived by her sons, Roger Houck Jr. (Dawn), Prent Houck (Claudia) and Greg Houck (Rhonda); her four grandchildren, Ryan Houck (Ji-In), Jillian McBride (Wes), Brenna Houck (Andy), and Leigh Houck; her four great-grandchildren; her brother, Tom Vick (Anita) of San Diego; her brothers-in-law Gerald Budgett (Dorothy) and Charles “Chuck” Houck (Barbara); her sister-in-law, Laurice Houck Iseminger (Kenneth); and her many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger (September 7, 1990); her brothers, John Vick, Windsor Vick, and Roger Vick; and her sisters, Dorothy Vick Budgett, and Helen Vick Hill.
Pat was born June 21, 1934, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Jay Vick and Hilda Melbostad Vick, whose parents had immigrated from Norway in the mid 1800’s. The youngest of seven children, Pat grew up in Sioux Falls, S.D. She graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, and studied at South Dakota State University.
Pat married her high school sweetheart, Roger Houck, on Sept 11, 1954, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. They moved to Boston, MA, where Roger studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After Roger graduated, they moved to Gardena CA, Anaheim, CA and then to La Habra CA, where they raised their three sons.
Pat enjoyed her family, waterskiing, volleyball and traveling. Pat and Roger bowled together for many years in a league sponsored by the Hughes Aircraft Co. She especially enjoyed hosting many visitors, often family and extended family members, at the “Houck Hotel.” Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a longtime and active member of the Orangethorpe United Methodist Church in Fullerton, CA.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 2pm at Loma Vista Memorial Park, 701 East Bastanchury Road, Fullerton, CA 92835. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, or to another charity of your choosing.
