The family moved to San Diego in 1967, where Michael began the 3rd grade at Saint Theresa Catholic School. He went to junior high at Pershing and High School at Patrick Henry. After high school he entered the work force for John Lenore Distributing as a delivery driver. He soon learned this was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Michael had a real interest in computers and went to work for Atlas Hotels working on software for their computer systems. It exposed him to refrigeration, heating and air conditioning, which was the beginning of his successful career in the heating and air condition segment. In December of 1988, Michael went to work for MJB Heating and Air Conditioning.
Working at MJB Michael crossed paths with the woman that was to become the love of his life. Jennifer and Michael were married 2 years later on September 28, 1996. On February 17, 1998 they had their first child Sophia Rose, and Jack Cameron came along on March 1, 2000. In 2002 the couple purchased a beautiful home in Vista where he was able to watch his beloved children grow into teenagers. Michael’s dream of being a family man had become reality. They travelled all over the Western United States by motor home, enjoying camping with family and friends in the desert, beaches, and mountains. Michael enjoyed golf and tried to be on the golf course as often as business would permit. The highlight of these days on the course was when he teed off with his Mom and Dad.
In 2009 the owner of MJB decided to close his business and Michael decided it was time to branch out on his own. He started MHS Heating and Air Conditioning March of 2009, and it flourished under his leadership. Everything was falling into place, then December 22, 2010 Michael was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He began the fight of his life. He had too many dreams to live before leaving this earth. One of the dreams he made reality was to take Jennifer, Sophia and Jack on a trip of a lifetime to the Turks & Cacaos’ Islands. It was a vacation none of them will ever forget. The next dream was to buy a building to house MHS Heating and Air Conditioning. He lived to see this too. Escrow closed in early August 2014.
On August 26, 2014, Michael succumbed in his battle with this terrible disease, cancer. He is now free from pain and with his parents and brother Patrick.
The following letter is from his daughter Sophia shortly after he passed:
“I don’t want my funeral to be a gathering where everybody cries, I want my funeral to be a party with drinks and dancing on my grave dammit.” Honestly Dad, ever since you said that to me it never left my mind. I promise you that I will make sure that your funeral is a party. Where we will celebrate your amazing life. You fought so hard and long, let’s be honest though, cancer is a bitch. You left us way too early. The last couple of days, you were in so much pain. I’m so thankful that it’s all gone now. I know you’re so happy being with Granny and Papa. Tell them I say hi, and I love them. I’m going to miss seeing you at my volley ball games, screaming at the refs, telling them that a blind person could do a better job. You did so much for Jack and me and I’m so thankful and lucky that I got such an amazing Dad. I am going to miss you! I’ll take care of Mom, don’t worry. Don’t party too much up there. I love you Dad! You’ll be forever in my heart! I love you!
