He was born at home to Thomas Jensen and Nancy Jensen (Wasco) in Redford County, MI.
Michael grew up in Florida and California. The sport he first truly loved was soccer. He won National medals in soccer. He coached or helped with his son's team. He also played hockey while at UC Santa Barbara. Mike also loved the ocean and all it's bounty. He was an avid spear fisherman, he loved to play rock n roll on his guitar with the volume cranked up. He played all kinds of card and casino games-excelling at Craps. He enjoyed being the captain on his Tollycraft boat, 'The Recluse' in Oceanside Harbor for many years. Mike was 'there to help' if a human, pelican or anyone needed a rescue.
He was a kind, generous man; a good provider with a good sense of humor. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. His skill for birdcalls was showcased by his great grouse call; among others. Michael delighted in gems and stones and liked to have them decorate his living spaces.
Mike graduated from Fountain Valley High in 1976 in Fountain Valley, CA. After high school he attended college at the University of California in Santa Barbara where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Geography (Double Major).
Mike married Jan A. Perry in 1987 and they have one child, Hunter Jensen. Jan preceded him in death in 2005.
Michael married Jodie Allen in 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. They lived happily together for over 10+ years. Surviving Michael are his wife, Jodie and son, Hunter Jensen Fullerton,CA; his parents Thomas and Nancy Jensen, Pinedale,Wy; his brothers and sister in laws; Robert and Mary Jensen of Santa Barbara, CA,
Richard and Farzana Jensen of MA; David and Michelle Jensen of Huntington Bay, CA, his nieces Andrea and Emily Jensen of Santa Barbara, CA, his aunt and uncle, Barbara and Ed Seiss Fort Collins, CO, his mother in laws, Nancy Nephew of AK and Diane Elderson of CA, father in law, James Allen of CA, his step sons Chris Huey of MI and Aaron Huey of CA, six grandchildren, other family and many friends.
Mike worked many interesting jobs; including Outdoor advertising with Gannett USA, he joined Burgee Magazine in advertising for a few years. Most of Michael's career was in Risk and Safety Management for over 25 years; both as an employee and an owner. His last positions being Regional Safety Director (Stellar Management) and Risk/Safety Manager (Lyneer).
Michael was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMES).
A Funeral and Celebration of Life are planned on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Oceanside at 11:00a.m. The Celebration of Life will be at the Oceanside Broiler from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Please stop by to share a memory.
