Mary “May” Weeks, 89, of Oceanside, California, sadly passed away March 5, 2025. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on June 20th, 1935, to John and Isabella Burke. Mary was a beloved wife to her husband Chuck during a fifty-seven year marriage following a chance meeting at a mutual friend’s wedding while both were visiting Germany from Scotland. They were by each other’s side traveling the world with stops in Japan, Spain, and various locations throughout the United States throughout Chuck’s career in the United States Marine Corps. During their time together, they raised 5 children, Lynda, Donna, Judi, Chase and Andrew. Mary was the rock of the family, holding the family together as the Marine Corps relocated them every few years.
A passionate homemaker and mother, she was a constant source of counsel to her family and could always be counted on to help them stay the course during challenging times. Her devotion to her family was relentless. Her children were her purpose. She was always there to build them up and hold them accountable for their decisions while guiding them thru life. Later in life she, along with her husband Chuck, would relocate multiple times, just to spend as much time as they could with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Along the way, she never lost a bit of her Scottish pride (or her accent). She would rival William Wallace with her signature call for “FREEDOM” as an answer to any situation. Her sense of humor would light up the room as she was always more concerned for the welfare of her family and care takers than she was for herself. Afflicted by dementia later in life, she never let that horrible disease change her personality. Although she was fully aware of her memory failing her, she remained upbeat, happy, and joyful to be around throughout her life. At the end of a tough day, which can be the most challenging time for a dementia sufferer, she would regularly say to her care givers “thank you for being my friend.” This best sums up who Mary Weeks was. A compassionate soul, who would easily attract friends with her endearing personality and genuine concern for everyone around her.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents John and Isabella, brothers, Sammy and John, and sister Mariah, and the love of her life, her husband Chuck. She is survived by her 5 children Lynda, Donna, Judi, Chase, and Andrew along with 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
