Chiquita passed away 8/22/13 @ 9:00 am after a short five month battle with aggressive breast cancer. She grew up in the Carlsbad Barrio and graduated from Oceanside-Carlsbad High School, class of 1957. She attended Oceanside Junior college, where she received her AA in 1959. Shortly thereafter, she was hired by the Oceanside Unified School District as a temporary employee. Forty-one years later, she retired from the print shop at the district office.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rosalio Davila, when she was 2, her mother, Soledad Davila-Romero, brothers Anthony “Tony” Davila, Rosalio “Spike” Davila and Alex Davila.
She is survived by her husband, Rudy Moreno, daughters Claudia Moreno and Patricia King and husband Steve. Also survived by her sister, Rose Marinez and husband Danny, brothers Gabriel Davila and family and Dr. Robert Davila, his wife Donna and family, and of course, her beloved Chihuahuas, Daisy and Poppy.
Chiquita enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, going to the casino and especially her Friday night dinners with the girls. She had a passion for geneology and was able trace her family back many generations. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. She will be missed more than words can express but will live on forever through our memories of her. Rest in peace, Mom. We love you.
A visitation and rosary will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the rosary being held at 7:00 pm.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carlsbad with burial to follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception for Chiquita immediately following the burial at Harding Street Community Center Auditorium in Carlsbad.
