Mark was born on July 9, 1950 in Elvins, Missouri to Helen Masse and Linus Alfonso
Young. He grew up with 2 older brothers, David Hawkins and Michael Young, and older sister,
Dianna Haworth. He grew up moving from state to state where he made many friends that he
cherished over the course of his life. He eventually settled in Carlsbad, CA creating a life of his
own, making music, styling hair and living life to his fullest.
Mark was known to be the “life of the party.” He loved to jam out with friends, make
music and sing his heart out. As we all know, he was the creator of the famous yet inappropriate
song, “Crabs In My Mustache!” With his quick wit, humor and contagious smile, he always
attracted a crowd around him. He became the “man” that everyone wanted to be friends with,
because he was always just that cool!
He was married to Marilou Young, of 20 years, where their love-story started in a
restaurant. They immediately fell in love and had tied the knot after only knowing each other for
3 months. Everyone thought that they were crazy for moving on so quickly, but Mark and
Marilou knew that they were destined to be with each other. They were each other’s best friend,
making memories and building a life together, wholesomely in-love.
Throughout life, Mark had 4 kids. Joel, Jesse, Brittany and Maxinne Young. He was a
great man and father, who had just enough discipline yet leniency raising his kids one by one.
From grand trips to small outings and staying up to finish school projects, he did it all with a
smile on his face. A man who always wanted his kids to have the best life even when times were
rough. He would go the extra mile just to see a smile on his child’s face, and that to him was
priceless.
Everyone who knew Mark felt his big heart and loving nature. He was a family-oriented
man, always wanting to surround himself with his grandkids, children and family. He was such a
happy man, even through his last weeks of battling the endless pain he endured. He would rather
go off in a corner or another room to let his emotions out, rather than to have his loved ones see
the pain he was in. Mark has and always will be the most admirable and respectable man to ever
know and how lucky are we to witness the impact he had on every single one of us here today.
To Mark - a husband, father, brother and friend, you made us all proud. From the beginning up until your last few days here on earth with us, you will always be remembered and loved. May we continue singing, living our lives to the fullest in tribute to you. Cheers to a quick smoke and drink in remembrance of you. You did good, Dad. You did you good.
