It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Korbin, age 17. A lifelong resident of Carlsbad, Korbin had recently graduated with Carlsbad High School’s class of 2020. We were proud of his decision to pursue a career as a firefighter, and he was excited to begin taking steps to do so in the fall.
Korbin was an avid world traveler. His amazing adventures began when he was just a baby with his parents, Daniel and Rebekah, and later included his siblings, Ella and Jude. As a family they traveled all over the United States, most countries in Europe, Southeast Asia, and many more incredible destinations.
Korbin’s love for travel and interest in other cultures, combined with his compassionate heart, fueled a strong desire to make a difference in the world. Through Global Leadership Adventures he participated in volunteer service trips to Thailand and Peru where he worked with local children and made other contributions to the communities that he visited.
Korbin was a gifted musician and music lover. He played multiple instruments including drums and guitar. He was always playing or listening to something, and we will forever miss his music that filled our home.
Korbin loved his family immensely. He would spend hours playing video games with his little brother or play fighting with his sister. He had been working by his father’s side in their family owned construction business for the summer. He was extremely thoughtful and loving to his mother and would help with his siblings whenever needed.
Korbin is survived by his loving parents, Daniel and Rebekah Rice, and his siblings, Ella and Jude Rice. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Carol Rice; maternal grandmother, Judi Thomson; maternal grandfather, Rick Thomson; cousins, Lauren, Hadley, Allison, Cameran, Jaxton, and Krew; aunts, Krissy, Mary, Michelle, Canaan, Amy, and Sarah; uncles, Jarrod, Marc, and Larry. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who mourn his loss.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and best friend, Michael Rice, whom he is now with in Heaven.
Korbin was a beautiful human being inside and out. He had a sensitive, gentle soul. His absence will be felt by his family and friends for the rest of our lives.
