Karen was born January 12, 1979 in Virginia. She has lived in Oceanside, California for the past 21 years. Karen grew up in Connecticut, attended schools in Groton & Mystic and then graduated from Ledyard High School Class of 1997.
She worked as a florist at Mystic Florist prior to moving to California. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Mystic, CT.
Karen wanted to experience living on the west coast, where her dad and family lived, for different opportunities and grow as a person.
For the past 19 years she was employed by Home Depot, energetically advancing from the Garden department, to Human Resource Director. She was passionate about her career, very dedicated to their philosophy, mission and principle. Always with a positive attitude, concern for her associates and always willing to pitch in to help. She came home exhausted but always had time to tell a little story of her day. She earned many awards and was recognized for all her leadership endeavors. She loved her Home Depot family.
She also loved the simple pleasures of life: the beach, botanical gardens, short hikes, vegetable gardening, and relaxing massages. She especially loved visiting, taking trips or chatting with family. She adored her son, Bradley, and cherished every moment that they were together.
She has such a contagious laugh and great sense of humor. Her beautiful presence and smile touched many lives.
She will be very sadly missed by her son, Bradley Taylor, and his father Rick, her father Edward Shinn (his wife Sue) of Las Vegas; her mother Barbara (Gayson) Shinn of Oceanside; her sister, Jennifer (Shinn) Freeman and niece, Jaylnn Ferry of Las Vegas. She leaves behind many caring aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful close friends and her 3 cats and 2 dogs.
She was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Richard and Violet (Cho) Shinn; maternal grandparents Albert and Sally (Kriksciun) Gayson; Cousin Elizabeth; Aunt Katie; her cats Boomer and Baxter.
