It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Marine Corps veteran, Hubert Robinson Jr, known as “Rob” or “Johnny Hubert”. He was a long-time resident of Oceanside, California who departed this world unexpectedly on May 5th, 2023 at the age of 77 surrounded by his family at Tri-City Hospital.
Born on January 3, 1946 in Leary, GA to parents Herbert and Freddie Mae Robinson, Rob grew up in a religious family guided by the wisdom of his beloved grandfather who served as a minister and lived to be 100 years old. He and his family later resided to Albany, GA where he attended Monroe High School.
Rob, answered the call to duty and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, February 23, 1967 in Albany New York. He began his remarkable journey of service at Camp Geiger, Marine Corps Base Lejeune and during his travels he met his wife’s parents and was introduced to his beloved wife Eleanor their connection blossomed amidst the challenges of military life. Devoted to his family, Rob was blessed with a loving bond that would endure for over 49 years. As a devoted father, he nurtured and guided his two children, providing them with a strong foundation of love, support, and moral values.
He embarked on a distinguished military career that would span an impressive 22 years, having served faithfully and honorably retiring August 16, 1989. His extraordinary bravery and selflessness were acknowledged through earning several accolades for his valor and dedication. Rob served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War with 1st Battalion 5th Marines (1/5) and was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart, a testament to his courage in the face of enemy fire and the sacrifices he made to protecting others.
In the civilian world, Rob pursued a certificate in Education Studies at Palomar College and embarked on a second career at TRW/Northrop Grumman retiring after 18 years in 2007. His contributions in the aerospace and defense industry were valuable to his colleagues and an inspiration to all who had a pleasure of working alongside him.
Upon retirement, Rob embraced the freedom to enjoy life, including his love for music, bike riding, BBQ and the excitement of the Del Mar Racetrack. He could also be seen at several local casinos during his leisure time. Above all, he treasured the presence of his four grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and laughter to his life.
He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his warm heart, and his unwavering support for those he held dear. Rob was a true inspiration to his family, friends, and fellow service members, and his legacy of courage and selflessness will continue to live on.
Rob is preceded by his sister Bernice Richard (Coolidge), Mother, Freddie Mae Robinson and Father, Herbert Robinson. He is survived by his wife Eleanor G. Robinson, daughter Sakita George (Ezekel), son DeCarlo Robinson (Kendra), one sister Ethel Robinson Bonner, his two nephews Wymon Bonner (Jasmine), Terrance Bonner (Tymesha), four grandchildren Nylah Summers, Uzane Robinson, Ezekel George IV, Neziah Robinson and several grand nieces and grand nephews. They take solace in knowing that Rob made an indelible impact on the lives of those around him and left the world a better place through his service and love.

Rest in peace, brave warrior.
