

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Opal (Jackie) Skeggs, Douglas Skeggs and Dana Skeggs; his sons, Diane Ercisson; his daughter, Bill Munz; his brother, six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Born in Blackwell Oklahoma the son of William and Emma (Munz) Skeggs. He spent most of his adult life living in southern California, to include Downey, Carlsbad and most recently Oceanside. He and Jackie also lived in Idaho for awhile during their retirement.
In his early years, Henry worked several job such as loading timber, crushing rock and also shoveling coal. Before graduating from high school, at the age of 17 he volunteered and joined the Navy in 1942. He served at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY as a petty officer and was Honorably Discharged in 1946.
He met his wife, Jackie Jackson during a job interview in California and they were married in March 1948 in Las Vegas. Also in 1948, he started working as policeman with LAPD. He served as a patrol officer, Felony car officer and Detective Sergeant, retiring in 1976 as an Investigator III. He served over 28 years and distinguished himself with several commendations to include recognition from Police Chief Edward Davis.
After retiring he moved from his home in Downey to Carlsbad he and Jackie eventually settled in their Oceanside home in 1997. During retirement he enjoyed trips to Germany, Alaska, his fathers home in Alabama and site seeing visits along the East coast.
Henry had a love for his children and always made sure he was part of their school and athletic activities. He sense of values, loyalty and work ethic was always a part the Skeggs families’ life and his working career. He enjoyed reading history and military books and had a love for his beagle. Henry also enjoyed hosting and cooking for family and friends at his home.
Service is to be held December 10 at San Marcos Lutheran Church, with a private burial at Riverside National Cemetery.
