Harry Downes Johnson Jr passed away on Aug 12, 2019, survived by his loving family. Harry was born on March 8, 1944 in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, and he grew up in Jacksonville Florida. He then enlisted in the USMC and served in Vietnam. He served 4 years in the USMC and then 20 years in the USAF. During his service he attended University of Maryland and obtained a BS in History. He married Nancy Hullderman in 1973 and they were married for 47 years. They had a daughter, Amanda, who is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon in San Jose, CA. Harry retired from the Air Force and settled in Apple Valley, CA with his wife and daughter. He loved education and learning, and pursued an MBA degree. He later became a teacher, before retiring with his wife in Oceanside, CA.
He was a man who didn’t mince words, and he was blunt and to the point. He was exceptionally organized and was known for his ability to remember trivia facts. He loved history and listened to 60’s music. Harry was an honorable man. Words to describe him are honest, loyal, dependable, punctual, trustworthy. Harry loved his country and was patriotic.
Harry was an adventurer who loved nature, hiking, traveling, working out at the gym, and reading. Among his travels, he hiked to the base camp of Mt. Everest in Tibet, he hiked to the top of Mt. Whitney, and he hiked the Grand Canyon at least 9 times. He loved to drive around the US, and also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Alaska, Egypt, and many places in Asia.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, his daughter Amanda, his grandchildren Jack and Kayla, and his brothers Mark and Stuart. He will be missed.
