Gloria passed away peacefully in her home in Carlsbad, California. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts to John Joseph Guy and Emily Duclo Guy, who preceded her in death. She grew up in Brockton, the youngest of five children, with brothers; Raymond, Russell, and Wilfred and sister; Beatrice, all of whom preceded her in death.
Having broken up with her first love, Richard (Dick) Frizzell, Gloria married Carmen Colletti and had a daughter, Diana Beatrice (1943 - 1996). Shortly after, Carmen was killed in action in Luxembourg, during World War II. Widowed and grateful for a second chance at true love, Gloria married Dick (1921 - 2009), on July 30, 1946 in Seabrook, New Hampshire. They raised Diana and later had a son, Richard John (1957 - 1976).
When they married, Dick was already a US Marine, who proudly served his country from 1938 to 1968, having enlisted before he was of age. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed in 1941 and later served numerous tours of duty in various locations around the world, making many life-long friendships along with way. Dick was stationed in Guam in the late 50s, where Gloria, Richard and Diana joined him.
In the early 60s, when Dick was stationed at Camp Pendleton, they decided to make their home in Carlsbad, where they lived throughout the rest of their lives. An avid golfer, Gloria delighted in spending time with friends at the local golf course at Rancho Carlsbad, where she shot a hole-in-one on more than one occasion.
Gloria will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature, her feisty spirit and her love of friends and family. In her later years, as she became a grandmother, she was known for her constant desire to feed everyone around her! She spent many hours baking cookies and cakes for her grandchildren, always sneaking sugar-filled “care packages” into their willing hands as they finished each visit to her house.
Gloria is survived by her grandsons; Rock Hunter (Robin), Bradley Hunter (Vanessa), granddaughter; Heather Hunter, ten great-grandchildren; Brendon Hunter, Kristen Dearborn, Bennett Widyolar, Dwight Hunter, Delaney Widyolar, Tiffany Hunter, Ashley Jeltz Hunter, Kamren LaRussa, Shyane Lira and Nikolas Lira and great-great-granddaughter, Riley Dearborn, along with many nieces, nephews and life-long friends, including her dear friend Nancy Rickert.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on August 13th , 2016 at 3600 Donna Drive, Carlsbad, California 92008.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
