It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Dr. Glen L. Davis on Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. Bernardine’s Hospital in San Bernardino, CA. He passed peacefully with family by his side after a short illness.
Glen was born on April 29, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah as the 2nd son of Joseph & Viola Davis. He had a brother Don and a sister Joyce. He was always a good student with a strong work ethic and he took a lifetime of pride in the fact that he had earned the honor of Eagle Scout. Upon graduating from South High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and was fortunate enough to be stationed in Washington D.C. and San Diego, CA as a yeoman at the end of World War II.
After an honorary discharge, he enrolled at the University of Utah where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and the NCAA Championship Golf Team. Golf became a lifelong passion of his and he excelled in the sport winning many tournaments that he competed in during his lifetime.
After graduation, Glen met and married Evelyn Cluff in 1949 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He was accepted to Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery and was then recruited by the US Air Force to serve as a dentist based at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, CA in 1953. Glen & Evelyn liked the beautiful setting of the city and the fact that it was close to the mountains and the sea, so they decided to make this their home.
Glen had a thriving dental practice in a very short time and was referred to by many as “The Singing Dentist”…. Together, Glen & Evelyn raised 4 children and were prominent members of their church and community, volunteering to support the schools, charities, scouting programs and coaching in Little League. He was a lifetime avid sports fan and in addition to golf, Glen enjoyed water-skiing, snow-skiing, stream fishing, raising thoroughbred horses and traveling.
In 1993, after 39 years of practice, Glen retired and his son Dr. Terry Davis took over his dental practice. He & Evelyn then chose to relocate to Vista, CA where they lived many happy years, making new friends, traveling, enjoying time with their growing family and beloved Shih Tzu dogs. A highlight for them was celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1999, where they were honored with their entire family & friends at a luncheon at the La Costa Resort.
Glen Davis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don and his beloved wife, Evelyn. He is survived by his children Sandra Davis Kay, Randall G. Davis, Dr. Terry M. Davis (Rosemary) and Donald B. Davis (Gloria) and his grandchildren Eric Kay (Camela), Kelly Kay Miller (Steve), Brett Kay (Kristen), Chad Davis (Shannon), Lindsey Davis, Ryan Davis, Kristin Davis, Adam Davis, Taylor Davis, Bryan Davis and 9 great-grandchildren. And the greatest companions in Glen’s last few years, his dogs Muffy & Dolly.
We can truly say that our father and family patriarch was a shining example of The Greatest Generation and a man that we were so honored to be able to share our lives with. We will cherish our memories of him forever……..
A private family memorial and internment will be held at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside, CA.
