Geraldine Ruth Spangler

Gerry was born in Spring Glen, PA, April 6, 1928. In March of 1961, she moved from Lancaster, PA with her husband, Ray and children to Vista, California. Six months later they moved to Carlsbad. Gerry started as a volunteer at the Carlsbad City Library, at that time located in two small buildings downtown.

She was hired by Georgina Cole, when the new Carlsbad City Library was built, she was involved with moving to the new building. She enjoyed many hours of conducting Story Hour, where she would read, teach songs and have special guests entertain the children. As a 22 year employee, her favorite section was the Children's Section. After retirement, she and her husband spent many years traveling the United States in their motor home.

Gerry was preceded in death by her son, George Spangler. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Raymond Spangler, her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Brousil and her daughter Sharon Spangler. She has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She has a sister Eleanore and 2 brothers, Roy and Richard that live in Pennsylvania. A graveside memorial service will be held at Eternal Hills in Oceanside on November 11th at 10:30 am.
