It's been ten years and I still think fondly of NDI and Fred banging out emails on his Toshiba Tecra laptop. Fred was an officer and a gentleman, and gave many eager future cybersecurity professionals their first taste of public sector work.  Fred created a bridge between the structured public sector, desperately in need of innovative thinking, and the unstructured cybersecurity community known collectively as "hackers." Fred was humble and only after his passing did many people outside of his family learn of the mans depth and his passion for service. A true pioneer, the world would be better with more people of Fred's character. Rest easy, soldier.

I worked for Fred for a few years while in college (for New Dimensions International and System Defenses). Fred gave me one of my first jobs in the information security field. I learned a lot from Fred. I have been trying to reach Fred via email, but now I understand why he has not been responding.

Although we lost touch, I am saddened to hear that he has passed away. We've lost a great teacher, patriot, and most importantly, a friend.

If you knew Fred, you could not say or hear his name without smiling. Fred was generous with his time, loyal in his friendships and an example of how a Man lives his life. Intelligence, humility, compassion, generosity, humor and loyalty are only a few of the words to describe Fred. I will miss you my friend.

Former Executive Deputy Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). We had many fun years educating NASA and other Federal agencies on computer security risks and hacking trends. You will be missed.

Sweet Fred.  We lost contact over the past few years...I have fond memories of long phone conversations about children and keeping them safe.  Security was usually the basis of the contact, but there was always a warmth and sense of family whenever we talked.  Lots of laughter:)You will truly be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have you in their lives. I am thankful that we crossed paths, as well.

I did not have much opportunity to spend time with my Uncle Fred and my Villella family. Fred made me feel loved and special. Fred was a a man that cared for others, listened and always made them feel valued. I loved him immediately. He will be missed and a grieve for his loss and my sympathy to all his friends and family.

Uncle Fred, my dad was always so proud of his little brother for all your career accomplishments.  But your biggest achievement of all was putting family first. It's a Villella trait, and we are all the better for it! God bless you. We will miss you very much. Love, Cathy. p.s. please say hello to my dad.

I worked for Fred for a few years in the late 90's and will never forget those years. Fred was like the grandpa that I never really had growing up. Although we didn't do a real good job in staying in touch over the years, I have thought of him often. Fred will be missed.

Great man, husband, father, father-in-law, and friend.  Most of all...............a GREAT GRANDPA to my daughter Reese!

My dear Uncle, you will be greatly missed by many, but especially by me and all my family.  I treasure the memories we made in our youth at the old house on Findley Street.  I will always remember the special ring of your laughter and voice in song.
