Floyd held the titles of husband and father, but he was also a United States Marine, having been Honorably discharged after two decades in his final military service as a Gunnery Sargent.
While he was a Field Bugler for the USMC, Floyd also studied Music Theory at the Marine Corps Institute and was the recipient of following:
National Defense Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal, to cite just a few military accolades.
Floyd, in his post-military life was an older brother-from-another-mother to many in his Masonic Lodge and belonged to the following organizations: Past Master of Surfside Lodge #112 Oceanside, Ca; Past Commander-in-Chief Robert W. Brown Consistory #378 Oceanside, Ca; Past Potentate Azeem Temple No. 102 San Diego, Ca; North County retired military Association, Oceanside, Ca.
Including the aforementioned life activities, Floyd, for well over twenty years, was known as EZ in his incarnation as an NCTD bus driver. He served in this position as he served his Country, and his Brothers, with pride, professionalism, and kindness.
Floyd, born January 1937 near Mobile, Alabama, is survived by his daughter, Tina, and a distant cousin, Robert. His wife, Miwako, predeceased him in September 2018.
The Visitation for Brother Gaskins will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory in the Eternal Hills Chapel,
located at 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California 92054.
The Interment Committal service will follow the next day for Gunnery Sargent Gaskins on
Friday, February 16, 2024 starting at 1:00 P.M. in the Eternal Hills Chapel,
at Eternals Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory to conclude at the on-site mausoleum with a military detail.
Fellow life travelers, in lieu of your presence at either service, should this process be too difficult, please be kind to yourself and know that you may pay your respect in one of the following ways:
1. A simple but elegant floral arrangement with a color scheme in either red, white, and blue in honor of
his Marine military service or a color grouping of blue, silver, and white in co-ordination with the very
fine casket dad chose for himself, to be delivered to Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary &
Crematory, located at 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California 92054.
2. A donation to St. Judes Hospital in memory of Floyd Gaskins.
3. A donation to either the San Diego Humane Society or any no-kill animal shelter you believe needs
the donation more, again in memory of Floyd Gaskins.
