Dorothy Mary Kavanagh Kitchen was born April 6, 1925 to John and Dorothy Kavanagh. She was the eldest of three: sister Anne Kavanagh Kantorski, her husband Adam Kantorski and brother John Kavanagh, his wife Joyce Kavanagh, all deceased. Her husband, Thomas G. Kitchen and her son, Thomas M. Kitchen , preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Deirdre Anne Kitchen and her fiancé Christian Frahm, by her grandchildren, Chad Michael Kitchen, Heather Lynn Kitchen, her husband Steve Howard ,their children Matthew Howard, Danielle Howard and Jason Howard, Kelly Nicole Kitchen Baker, her husband Neil Baker, their children Skylar Baker and Cloe Baker, and Meghan Tadio. She also has surviving nephews and nieces. She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.
She had many strong beliefs: the importance of education, civil rights and respect, and assisting children and those in need. She worked diligently as a social worker, after receiving her BA in 1969, a highly prized achievement, to protect the rights and welfare of children while trying to maintain the wholeness of the family. She won awards in a job that was too challenging for most to do.
She was an avid reader, loved adventure, and travel, the ocean and beach, playing cards, drinking coffee and eating chocolate. She taught the importance of learning, independence of thought, true respect and consideration of others, the gift of listening and most importantly how to love with all of your heart.
We will all miss her dearly and will forever hold her in our hearts.
