Carlsbad—It is with heavy hearts that the Hadley family announces the passing of their beloved “Don.” Don was born in Webb City, Missouri, and traveled to San Diego at an early age. He spent much of his life in San Diego. He graduated from Hoover High School and SDSU.
Don worked for many years for the Port of San Diego as Harbor Police Captain. Don moved to Carlsbad in 1987 with his wife, Patricia, and children, Kristin and Patrick, to work for the City of Oceanside. He held many positions with the city, including Harbor Master, Harbor Police Chief, Director of Harbor and Beaches, and retiring as Deputy City Manager. Don loved the city of Oceanside. Don was also a proud veteran. He served in the National Guard and Coast Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He served his country for 37 years. Don was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a past member of the board of The Women’s Resource Center. Don was a true family man. He fiercely loved his wife, Patricia, daughter, Kristin, and son, Patrick. He lived for his precious grandchildren, Tessa and Clark, and was so proud of everyone in his family.
Don had a bigger-than-life personality and lit up the room with his presence. He was fun-loving, gregarious, always smiling, and enjoying life to the fullest.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Allah Hadley, sister, Julie
Repucci, and brother, Leroy Hadley. Don is survived by Patricia, Kristin, and Patrick; daughters-in-law, Marianne Jensen and Sarah Hadley; sister, Susie Hadley Hoxel and brother-in-law, Mike Hoxel; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Karen Crogan; uncle Jim Hadley and wife Lori; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Don will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 3821 Adams Street, Carlsbad, CA., on January 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Miramar National Cemetery.
