Born on April 11th, 1935, in New Rochelle, New York, she was the daughter of the late William Van Winkle and Katherine Bailey.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John E. Tyler Jr. of Encinitas; two children, Jodian Ellen Tyler who preceded her in death, and John E. Tyler III and his wife Daphne Tyler of Escondido, CA; and a sister Valerie Sears and husband Ernie of Durham North Carolina, and two grandchildren, Zoeann Leslie Tyler of Visalia, California, and Alexander John Tyler of Vista, California. Diane graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1953, and The Berkeley Secretarial School of White Plains, New York in 1954. She worked for The American Home Magazine from 1954 to 1958 as an executive secretary and assisted with planning recipes, layouts, prop procurement, photographing, and modeling. She also held the position of executive secretary for The First Federal Savings & Loan of Broward County from 1958 to 1960, The Wilshire Oil Co. of California from 1960 to 1961, and finally at the Griffin Publishing Company of Glendale, California from 1961 to 1964. While with Griffin she also wrote and planned the layout of several magazine articles.
From 1964 until her death, she was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker for her family.
She was a volunteer member of the San Diego RACES emergency communications unit under the San Diego Sheriff’s Department for ten years.
Diane loved seagulls, the San Diego Chargers, scrap booking, spending time with her grandchildren and following their academic pursuits, as well as shopping with and enjoying time with her close friends.
Memorial services will be conducted at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California, Tuesday, October 31 at 1:00 PM. Post service reception to follow from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
