David Riggs Tracy

David R. Tracy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 2nd, 2023 at the age of 76. He was surrounded by his wife and children during his final moments. David was born on February 21st, 1946.

David was a teacher for over 40 years, 38 of them being at Black Mountain Middle School until he retired. He touched the lives of countless students throughout his career, and was recognized for Teacher of the Year for the Poway/San Diego area. David graduated from San Diego State University with a Master's in Education, and loved teaching and learning from his students. He often ran into previous students while he was out and about.

David was passionate about traveling and camping, and enjoyed collecting antiques. He found so much pleasure in reading and sharing books with family and friends, and loved sharing his love of reading with his grandchildren.

David proudly served and traveled 17 years with the Army and National Guard Reserves, including South Korea and South America. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant and continued his service to others through teaching and counseling at the Encinitas Post.

David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean, his children Chris, Corinne and Nikki, his grandchildren Ava, Damien and Silas, and his brothers John and Peter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, in-laws, and friends with whom he has now returned to.

David's life was well lived and traveled, and his passion for teaching and traveling will be remembered forever. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
