Dave was born in New York on May 26, 1952, and lived there for only a few short years before moving out here to California with his mother, Betty. His father died while Dave was very young. Betty remarried and gave Dave a sister, Penny and brother, Tim.
He grew up in Vista and went on to Palomar College to meet his wife, Sherri in a golf class. They married on September 5, 1974. He started a landscaping and office cleaning service that Sherri helped him with.. In August of 1978, they had their first daughter, Kristin. About four years later, along came Teresa.
Sherry and Dave attended Community Church just after they were married, where they made life long friends that are here today. They made it a priority to put their relationship with God first and were great examples to their daughters to do the same.
Dave began his involvement with the Boys Club as a very young adult. He was a volunteer, then later got a paid position. He received his BA in Recreation from SDSU. And with his experience working with children, he was able to take a job as the director for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Havasu City, AZ. He moved his family on the hottest day of the summer to a home with a broken swamp cooler. They only lasted a year in the heat and moved back Vista, working again at the Club. After less than a year back in Vista, he picked up his family and moved them to a tiny town called Santa Paula where he became Executive Director at this Boys and Girls Club. He turned this club around, getting grants to build a gym, and remodel the entire place to make it a more positive place for kids. He worked with kids from all different backgrounds. He was a great example although he may have been threatened a time or two and there was hardly a weekend that went by when the club didn’t get a new lovely piece of graffiti on it. But he never stopped trying. He loved what he did.
After four years, the family moved back to Vista when a position opened up at the Vista Club. Dave loved Vista and wanted his family to grow up here. Their friends and family were here. It was home. He was involved in many community projects and clubs like Kiwanis and he taught his daughters the value of community service and leadership.
In 2002, Dave allowed another man into his father of women, when Krissy married Will. And a year later gave Dave his first grandchild, Ashley whom he adored. Krissy and Will also gave him a grandson, Zachary David in 2005.
After some physical health problems, the doctors finally were able to diagnose Dave with multiple sclerosis in 2003. It was a long battle for him as his body wasn’t cooperating for him like it once did. He was a very patient man and took each day as it came. On June 13th, 2013, he was ready for that upgraded body in heaven. .
