Arlene Virginia Stone was born on April 26, 1925 in Providence, Rhode Island to George Donald Stone and Emma Maine Stone. Arlene passed away from natural causes on May 29, 2020 at Merrill Gardens Assisted Living in Oceanside, California, just a month after her 95th birthday. Her daughter Lisa Savage was at her side.
A resident of the San Diego area for more than 40 years, Arlene was a truly gentle soul and a blessing to all who knew her. She walked quietly through this world with a spirit of generosity, acceptance and trust that will be deeply missed.
Arlene married Russell C. Savage in 1947, and they made their home in Connecticut. They moved to Castile, New York so they could attend Elohim Bible Institute. After their graduation Arlene and Russ pastored rural churches for 12 years in Missouri, Colorado and Kansas where they made many friendships that lasted throughout their lives. Arlene was the quintessential pastor’s wife, leading Bible study and youth groups and helping the communities in which she lived.
Arlene had a deep commitment to family and was fortunate to have met and loved Russ, who preceded her in death in 1993. They are survived by five children: Sheila McKeag (Danny), Jeanie Frasch (Lew), Lisa Savage, Janet Savage, and Russell Savage Jr. (Stacie); six grandchildren: Shawn McKeag, Dana Gibbs (Barry), Lewis Frasch Jr. (Solveig), Lisa Frasch, Preston Frasch (Natasha), and Ross Weber (Amanda); and eight great-grandchildren. They are also survived by numerous extended family and friends throughout the country.
Arlene had a deep faith and knew she would be with the Lord, her beloved Russ and many other friends and family who went before her. Her family, in particular, will miss her steady presence, good nature and kindness, and we hope that heaven has a big supply of bacon and M&Ms – Arlene’s favorite treats.
Arlene will be interred next to Russ at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.
