Ann C. Evans, of Vista, California, passed away July 9, 2024, at age 109, and was believed to be the oldest person in San Diego County. It is truly the end of an era for her family, that includes five generations of nieces and nephews.
In 1915, Ann was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Francesco Paulo and Imperia Cristodaro, who were USA naturalized citizens, originally from Polizzi Generosa, Sicily. Ann was the youngest of nine children. Ann lived in Michigan until about age 19, then she moved to California where she resided in the cities of Fallbrook, Oceanside, Carlsbad, and finally Vista. In the 1960’s and 1970’s Ann did community volunteer work at the local hospitals as a “Pink Lady” and participated the American Legion Volunteer Program. She entertained senior citizens in their nursing homes by singing and dancing to the Nancy Sinatra song, “These boots are made for walking…” while wearing white boots and a 1960’s blouse/mini-skirt costume. The seniors loved watching her performances, clapping and singing along with her.
Ann married Frank Evans in 1975 and was widowed in 1993. In the 1990’s and 2000’s Ann was a caregiver for several family members and friends. In 2015, Ann Evans celebrated her “100th” birthday at the Padres baseball game in San Diego by throwing the first pitch. On her 107th birthday, Ann received a Proclamation from the Vista, CA, Mayor and Deputy Mayor for her amazing longevity.
Ann is survived by relatives and friends who dearly love her because she reached out to them, and they showed their gratitude by often sending cards, calling, and visiting her. Our dearest “Aunt Ann”, also called “Auntie Ann”, was very outgoing, learned to shoot a pistol quite accurately, loved to sing karaoke, enjoyed family gatherings, and spoke pearls of wisdom to whomever would listen. Ann, a woman of faith, believed in forgiveness and never holding grudges, which was her secret to finding happiness. Ann C. Evans was preceded in death by her parents and the following eight siblings: Sadie LaPuna (MI), James Christopher (MI), Jennie Frisco Prescott(CA), Mamie Elardi (CA), Joseph Christopher (MI), Henry Christopher (MI), Elizabeth Anselmo (CA), Samuel Cristodaro (IL). The passing of Ann C Evans marks the end of a treasured generation in our family.
