Surrounded by family each day of her last days, Alma P Roberts died on November 18, 2023 after a month-long struggle from a stroke. She led an extraordinary life and will be missed every day for the gifts she left her family.
Coming from Italian immigrant parents with minimal education (Anthony Pelosi and Aurora Anastasia), she found her way from Newark and East Orange, NJ to college, marriage to Lincoln Roberts, and teaching. She loved her sister June Legg, her brother Lou Pelosi and their families, who always gathered for holidays and vacations.
Though forced to quit teaching once pregnant, while raising her family, she achieved her Masters in English, became a school board member, and played tennis (which she had learned on public courts and as a camp counsellor in Vt, a valued experience). After moving from West Orange to Manasquan, NJ, she returned to teaching English teaching at Wall Township high school for many years.
After retiring with Linc, they moved to Massachusetts to be near daughter June's children. After Lincoln's death in 2000, she moved herself to California to be near Bill and Jim's families and to escape New England winters, as planned before Lincoln's death.
She was a proud grandmother of 8, and a great-grandmother of 13. During her 21+ years in California, she enjoyed her family, tennis with her many friends, and golf and travel throughout Latin America, Europe, China and Russia with her special friend Ross, family and friends.
Alma will be remembered for having instilled in her 3 children, Bill, June and Jim Roberts, the importance of family, God, and education. She raised her children to have good self esteem, to be self driven high-achievers, and to love athletics, without pressure or micromanagement; she raised the family with structure, acceptance and unconditional love. She is missed every day by the family.
