James A. Hill, a lifelong resident of Meeting House Branch Road in Clear Fork, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at CAMC, due to pneumonia. Born December 4, 1936, he was the son of the late Charlie and Dulcie Conley Hill. James started his career as a surveyor for the state, under the apprenticeship of his father, Charlie Hill. He spent over thirty years working as Chief Electrician in the coal mines for Consolidated Coal in Lynco. He later retired from Lisa Lynn Mining in 1985. He was a longstanding member of the UMWA. He was also a member of WV Willybillies Winnebago Club, where he held several different offices, including President. James lived in Sebring, FL during the winter months and loved travelling in his motorhome during the summer months. He was very proud that he had travelled to all fifty states. He was an avid hunter, loved flying, and loved working with heavy equipment on his old family farm. He also enjoyed working on his equipment and sawmill with his neighbor and cousin, Guy Brunty, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Lou McCoy Hill; two brothers, and their wives, Glen and Jane Hill and Kermit and Eileen Hill; two sisters-in-law, Nell Ruth McCoy and Jennie Morrison; one brother-in-law, J.C. Young; two of his favorite dogs, Old Man and Brandy; and his childhood friend, Bill Wright. Survivors include his daughter and caregiver, of whom he was very proud, Tonja Basconi of Mt. Nebo; Tonja’s son Jeremy Stephenson and wife, Lori; and grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew and Caycie Jo Stephenson. He is also survived by a very special friend, Bonnie Bogle of Scott Depot; three grandsons, Chris, Kyle and Dennis Hill; two great-granddaughters, Sydney Basconi and Arabella Hill; a great-grandson, Dylan James Basconi; a sister, Mrs. Ronnie “Jackie” Williams of St. Albans; and two dogs, Ginny and Ginger.
