Robert Greenberg, 91, passed away peacefully at his residence on August 3, 2022. Robert was born on June 17, 1931 in Paterson, NJ, to the late David and Marilyn Greenberg. He married his beloved wife Honey in 1954. In 1967 they moved to Old Bridge, NJ and then to Jackson, NJ in 2001. In 2019, they moved to Mattison Crossing in Freehold, NJ.
During his life, Robert went to college at City College of New York. After finishing school, he went to work for Marlene Industries in the Garment District as an executive salesman of ladies clothing for over 30 years where he commuted every day from Old Bridge to New York City. Afterwards, he continued his sales career working for Tops Appliances and Sears, and finally during his retirement years, became a greeter at Fridays where he was loved by all patrons. Robert loved his sports teams, and rooted for the NY Jets, NY Mets and Montreal Canadians. He enjoyed watching movies and had a large home collection, which included his favorite war movies and It’s a Wonderful Life. He was heavily involved at Congregation Beth Ohr in Old Bridge, where he went to services every Shabbat. He was an active member of their Men’s Club, and played on their softball teams for many years, and was the proud wearer of numerous championship jackets. He was also an active member of Congregation Ahavat Olam in Howell, NJ when he moved to Ocean County for over 20 years. Robert was the Patriarch of the entire family, and always loved to go see the life and sporting events of his children, grand-children, and great-grand-children.
Robert was pre-deceased by the love of his life of 65 years, Henrietta “Honey” Greenberg. Robert is survived by his son, Steven Greenberg and his wife, Susan Lesser-Greenberg; Daughters, Eve Greene and Lenore Vredenburgh; Grandchildren Mary Roppoli (Louis), Krystal Marshall, Kodi Vredenburgh, Michael Staggs (Eboni), Kevin Greene ( Julie), Adrienne Greene, Samantha Greenberg and Casey Greenberg as well as Great Grandchildren Charisma, Jayden, Xaria, Xavier, Ella and KJ.
The funeral service will be held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel at 2130 Highway35, Ocean, NJ on Sunday, August7, 2022, at 9:00 am followed by the burial service at Old Montefiore Cemetery in New York. The family will then observe Shiva as is the Jewish tradition at the home of Susan and Steven Greenberg.
