Hal was 99, but no one ever would have believed his age given the fact that he was still such a vibrant, active member of his community. He belonged to the Knights of Pythias for over 60 years having once served a term as Supreme Grand Chancellor for the state of New Jersey. He and Ellie were active members of Congregation Beth Am Shalom where they enjoyed participating in various activities. He was active with the Jewish War Veterans always proudly serving on the honor guard at various veterans celebrations. Hal never really spoke of his military experience, but he was a very proud WWII Army veteran who served in a very specialized unit known as The Merrill’s Marauders, which became known as today’s Army Rangers.
Anyone that met Hal felt an immediate sense of warmth, caring and compassion because that is who and what he was.
He is survived by his eternal soul mate of 76 years Ellie, their children, son Lewis and wife Linda, daughter Sally and husband Tom, granddaughter Lauren and husband Chris, granddaughter Brigette, grandson Ricky and wife Jessie, grandson Jessie and great grandchildren, Alexia, Gianna, Greg, Chase, Iris, Lucy and Faith.
Hal’s loss will be felt by so many, he truly was a remarkable man full of life, love and devotion to family and friends.
Donations in Hal’s name can be made to Deborah Hospital in Browns Mills, New Jersey.
A funeral service for Hal will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Temple Beth Am Shalom, 1235 NJ-70, Lakewood, NJ 08701.
