Samuel Leon Fisher, age 92, of Ocala, Florida passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 21, 2024. Sam was born on May 21, 1932 in Alta Vista, Kansas to the late Samuel Laben and Lilias Estella (Long) Fisher.
After graduating from high school, Sam went to Kansas State University, where he participated in ROTC. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Business, Sam joined the United States Air Force as an officer. After 28 years of service, Sam retired as a Strategic Air Command Officer for the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and received numerous medals and awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendations Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
After retiring from the service, Sam attended San Francisco Theological Seminary and received his Master of Divinity. He served as a minister for the United Methodist Church of Gulfport, Mississippi for several years. Passionate about outreach work, Sam was also a leader for the Divorce Recovery Workshop and Broken Rainbows.
In retirement, Sam and his wife enjoyed golfing, camping, and traveling. They served as camp hosts in several state parks.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lilias Fisher; daughter, Julie Corrigan; and his two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Andrea L. Fisher; his children, Jeff (Ronda) Fisher, Sam (Ginger) Fisher, Katrina (Ross) MacLachlan, Garth (Jane) Fisher and Bridget Lovejoy; Andrea’s children, Lisa (Mark) Bursinger and Kristi (Marcus) Underwood; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
