long after I have gone. The things we did together, the laughter that we shared,
will continue to give happiness to you throughout the years. So do not mourn
my passing, you are not left alone, sweet memories will live on and you will
find me waiting in God's precious home.”
Millicent Fay Powell nee Turpin was born to the late Edgar and Lillian Turpin, water
meter technician and homemaker, respectively, on the 14th March 1937 in Kingston,
Jamaica. She was called home on the 22nd May 2024 at the age of 87 years old in
Belleview, Florida.
Fay was a quiet pillar of strength. Right up until she lost her mobility, she was full of
independence, determination and pride. She was fiercely devoted to her family and
friends. Being a mother to her treasured daughters was her lifelong passion and
devotion; and anyone who knew them saw and felt their palpable and incomparable
bond. She was also instrumental in raising her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews;
and played the role of mother to many. The young ones around her were raised with
a gentle, loving guiding hand.
Known as a talented dressmaker and seamstress, her talent for sewing was a metaphor
for her life: the fabric- her friends and family; and each stitch- love, hard work,
guidance and dedication. She thrived greatly in her own way; always keeping busy.
Fay was also an avid gardener and a lifelong member of the Holy Cross Catholic
Church in Jamaica, where she blessed the senior choir with her soprano chords for
over fifty years.
Our lasting memories of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, friend
are simple but powerful: a hardworking, humble, passionate figure of strength who
never waned in her support or love for her family; and who quietly soldiered on
through the toughest of times.
She is preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband of over sixty years,
Clement; her brothers, Alphonso and Edmund; her sister Gloria and her grandson,
Corey. She leaves behind to honor her memory, her three beloved daughters, seven
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fay, we thank you, miss you and will love you eternally.
A funeral mass will be held on the 15th June 2024 at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1528
