It is with great sadness and incredible memories of joy and love that our family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother Michiko Yamada Standley on March 9, 2023. Michiko was born in Yokohama, Japan on November 29, 1925 to proud parents Kiyo and Chynoske Yamada. As it was throughout her life, she was surrounded by loved ones and passed peacefully.
Michiko was predeceased by her husband Darold Standley. She was his beloved Japanese war bride.
Michiko “Mickey” always felt her life’s work and greatest accomplishment was her family. Mickey is survived by her children Shirley Stankus (Tom), Carol Shaffer (Mark), Melvin Standley (Pam), Betty Ann Lacayo (Tom), and Chrissy Gourley (Michael). She is also survived by grandchildren Melissa Brydon, TJ Stankus, Brett Shaffer, Stephanie Standley, Carrie Lacayo-Benton, Joshua Gourley, and Sean Gourley. Her grandson, Tommy Lacayo, preceded her in death. She is survived by great grandchildren Abigail Shaffer, Maisy Miller, Graylyn Schieman, and Wyatt Shaffer.
To have known Mickey is to have loved her. Heaven has received a beautiful new angel and she will remain in our hearts, minds, and souls forever.
