Mary Jane Brady was born December 12, 1948, in Peoria Illinois. After they graduated from Peoria Barber College in 1973, Mary and her sister Margaret lined up jobs in Florida as men’s hair stylists, which is definitely a nod to Mary’s bold personality since at that time in history there were only about 5 or 6 women doing men’s hair and prior to retirement she owned a barbershop at Martin Marietta. Throughout her life Mary was a strong, outspoken, intelligent woman who cared deeply and unconditionally for all whom she loved. She was always willing to sacrifice for the good of others; she poured her heart into her family and gave all she had whenever we needed her. In her later years, together with her husband Greg, Mary devoted all her time to family and God. Although she experienced tragedy and strife at different times in her life, it never stopped her from loving, giving and having a sense of humor that was contagious. She enjoyed her animals, going to the movies, out to eat, and spending as much time with her grandchildren as she was able.
Mary is survived by her husband Gregory J. Brady, her two children Thomas Anthony Brady and Jennifer Ann BradyD’Alesio, her siblings Margaret Sample, Warren Stevens, Roy Stevens, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mary had a very special bond with her granddaughters, Abigail and Emily who kept their grandmother young at heart and willing to take on adventures despite struggling with her health and mobility in the later part of her life.
Mary was preceded by her beautiful mother Dorothy (Shaefer) Stevens, her father Harry Stevens and her brother Mark Stevens, who the family lost so very long ago. All who knew Mary, knew that she wouldn’t take a problem laying down - she was a leader, a teacher, a giver, a lover of Christ and deeply devoted to her family. She was a strong woman, who grew weary in her last days. She prayed for Jesus to bring her home and let her rest. Jesus heard her heart and brought her home.
We will honor the life of Mary Jane Brady on June 26th 2021 at 12 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 5740 South Pine Ave, Ocala Florida 34480. Immediately following, we will gather at the home of her daughter Jennifer for food, fellowship and memory sharing.
